Is a Smart URL the same as a campaign?
Last Updated 3 years ago

A Smart URL is the URL of a campaign but we find that Smart URL is an easier term for people to use and understand. A campaign is complex, the Smart URL you need to promote the campaign isn't. You don't need to know how an engine works to be able to drive a car. In the same way you don't need to understand how a Smart URL (or a campaign) works to use it - though as with a car, it will help if you learn about it.

Like a car, you can tune a Smart URL if you're not happy with the standard version. But to do so you'll have to roll your sleeves up and get your hands dirty.

So here's the thing...

A campaign is really a complete web page of which the page you're promoting is just one part. A campaign is made up of various elements, some of which are optional:

  • Your page - the thing you want to promote
  • A viral bar - this holds the next few items:
  • A 468x60 (long horizontal type) banner advert
  • A text advert
  • A brander (a box that shows an image such as your photo plus your name and contact links)
  • A unique and automatic tracking system that replaces all your links by tracking links automatically

The terms Smart URL and campaign URL are interchangeable but we prefer you to use the term Smart URL but to remember that it is the URL of a campaign of the same number. So http://vitalviralpro.com/m/12345 is a smart URL and is the same as the campaign URL for the campaign #12345.

If you want to change any aspect of your Smart URL then you'll need to edit the campaign of the same number - you do this by going to the Promote Your Sites -> My Campaigns menu.

You also need to then understand that a campaign is a collection of various elements (shown in the list above)
